What's on at 3 Days of Design
Incl. six emerging designers to check out, each with a perspective of their own
I’m writing this from the pool at my hotel in Singapore, where I just completed a 30 hour travel day and am trying to stay awake (it’s 2pm here aka 2am on the East Coast). I’m here covering the opening of Chef Corey Lee’s, Na Oh for SURFACE Mag. It’s my first press trip and my first time in Asia (!!!), and it all feels pretty surreal. I’ll have more to report soon, but you can follow me on Instagram for real-time updates.
I posted a roundup of the top shows and collaborations on my radar for Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design this week, June 12-14. As promised, I’m here to give you a more extensive list of everything I’ve been eyeing. This year’s theme is ‘Dare to Dream’ and it seems like everyone has taken on their own dreamy interpretation of it.
While I’m not in Copenhagen this week, I’m really excited to be sharing this. And even if you’re not either, I still think it’s worth reading on. I should mention, Copenhagen has been my favorite city since long before I ever stepped foot in the city. A lot of Americans romanticize Paris, but personally, the two times I’ve been to the “city of love”, I’ve left in tears and emotional turmoil (more on that probably never but I want to be honest with you). Meanwhile, Copenhagen has never let me down. I find the people to be friendly (and stunning), the design both functional and beautiful, and the fashion bold and special. Anyway, I could go on about the city for as long as anyone would let me, but that’s not what you’re here for. So let’s get into it, shall we?
Top of Mind: Collabs
There are some brands you just want to root for. FRAMA is one of them. It helps that everyone I’ve encountered from their team has been lovely– see my interview with their head of Comms, Paulina, for my story on chrome for AD. So when I heard they’d be collaborating with Faye Toogood for 3DD in a takeover of their flagship (worth a visit to this restored apothecary on its own), I was tuned in.
The Swedish woven flooring and rug brand is taking over the Danish cafe where whipped butter is an art.
In celebration of Aino Aalto, cofounder of Artek, who would be 130 this year, the Finnish furniture manufacturer and Danish textile brand, Tekla, are collaborating on a bedding collection (and perhaps more?).
Top of Mind: Shows / Installations
Helle Maradahl: The Grand Suite
The glassware designer is opening up her studio, showcasing her colored lighting collection. Everything about this space and world feels dreamy, right on theme.
This feels fun! This immersive experience is the first time Noma Projects will open their space.
ReFramed: A Dreamer’s Sanctuary
Friend of gr8 collab (I interviewed founder, Kasper Simonsen in a previous letter!), ReFramed is hosting its own 3 days of programming, including a breakfast in bed, unveiling of their new headboard system, and cocktail hours.
Top of Mind: Talks
FÓLK: How can design influence sustainable and circular living?
Montana Furniture: What’s wrong with Colour? Talk, live podcast, and panel discussion.
I’m very intrigued by this “live podcast panel discussion featuring colour alchemist and creator of Montana's colour palette, Margrethe Odgaard.”
Stefano Panterotto and Alexis Tourron discuss their new soft seating product for Vitra.
KOS Studio: Design Talk - Furniture x Fashion
Designer, Domantas Smaizys, known for collaborations with Acne Studios and Loewe, joins KOS Studio founder and art director Svetlana Koleda.
As far as parties go, I’d try and hit the &Tradition house party, Audo Summer Party, and Hem Opening House Party.
